THE CHRISTMAS SEASON
The Christmas season lasts twelve days, from Christmas Day until Jan. 5, the day before the Epiphany. The season includes Christmas Day, the First Sunday after Christmas Day, the Holy Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and may include the Second Sunday after Christmas Day.
THE EPIPHANY SEASON
A season of four to nine weeks, from the Feast of the Epiphany (Jan. 6) through the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. The length of the season varies according to the date of Easter. The gospel stories of this season describe various events that manifest the divinity of Jesus. The coming of the Magi is celebrated on the Epiphany.

Advent is the first season of the church year, beginning with the fourth Sunday before Christmas and continuing through the day before Christmas. The name is derived from a Latin word for “coming.” The season is a time of preparation and expectation for the coming celebration of our Lord's nativity, and for the final coming of Christ.
A symbol of Advent is the Advent wreath, a wreath with four candles. Some churches assign a Christian ideal such as faith, hope and love to each candle, to serve as a reminder of how we are to live our lives as faithful Christians. Each Sunday in Advent a candle is lit until, on the Fourth Sunday, all four candles are lit.
Join us at St. Lawrence on Nov. 24th to make your own Advent wreath.

A Service of Nine Lessons and Carols began in King’s College, Cambridge, England in 1918 and is now celebrated worldwide. The service features readings from both the Old and New Testaments that in some way foretell the coming of Christ. Readings alternate with beloved hymns, and special Advent works for organ and choir.
