At St Lawrence Episcopal Church we worship together in-person every Sunday at a 9:00AM Eucharist service.
What is a Eucharist?
A Eucharist, also known as a service of Communion, is the primary way that Episcopalians worship together on Sundays. The service includes music, readings from the Old and New Testaments, a sermon relating the Scriptures to our everyday lives, and the opportunity to receive bread and wine that are blessed to become the Body and Blood of Christ. We gather in this way because, when Jesus gathered his disciples at the Last Supper, he instructed them to continue doing so to remember him.
Who can receive Communion?
Anyone who wants to! We place no age restrictions on receiving communion and many of our young children have been receiving since they were able to eat solid food. We strongly believe that all are welcome at Christ’s table and will turn no one away. We also offer gluten free hosts for those with food sensitivities.
What should I wear?
Anything you want! We are a very casual congregation and there is no dress code (we promise!). Jeans are more than fine.
What happened to Zoom church?
Many of the changes we implemented when the pandemic hit in 2020 were stopgap solutions and not meant to last forever. The systems we put in place have, for many reasons, reached the natural end of their lifespans, which means that we have an opportunity to reimagine how we offer an online worship presence. We are committed to doing this work as thoughtfully, sustainably, and efficiently as possible - but we are not quite there yet. Unfortunately that means that, while we work towards building a new system, we will not be streaming services for the time being. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We WILL be back online in the near future. Please stay tuned for updates and please contact the office if you are unable to physically get to church and would like a pastoral visit in the meantime.
What about children?
Of course, children are welcome to church! Children may either stay with their caregivers or come forward to use the Soft Space at the front of the church. While it may sound terrifying to bring your kids right to the front, we have actually found that they are more engaged when they can see what is going on! The Soft Space is stocked with lots of age appropriate toys, books, and coloring sheets. It's a place where kids can be themselves and encounter the service on their own terms.
What if I’m not able to attend in person?
We have a dedicated team of clergy and volunteers who bring Communion to anyone who is not able to attend in person on Sunday mornings. If you are interested in having someone bring you communion please contact Betsy Swank.
