Dear St. Lawrence Family,
“Glory to God, whose power working within us can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine.” Ephesians 3:20
This is one of my favorite passages of Scripture and it is the passage that has kept springing to mind as we have brought our 2023 Stewardship Campaign to life. The past year at St. Lawrence has felt like an intensive curriculum in what this verse looks like in real life. God has surprised us again and again with abundance beyond what any of us could have imagined. Due to two major, unexpected gifts, we have been able to secure a path towards paying off the remaining balance of our mortgage. As a result, this summer, the wardens and I had the privilege of taking our building off the market and announcing to the congregation that St. Lawrence will remain at its Church St. home for the foreseeable future.
This is unimaginably good news, yes. And - it is an opportunity. Our beloved building needs a great deal of deferred maintenance. Our programs, which have been operating on a shoestring budget for years, need an infusion of energy and investment. For the first time in what feels like forever, we have the opportunity to allocate our pledge dollars to something besides our mortgage. And, so, I invite you to dream with me - who could St. Lawrence become in this new chapter of our life together?
Our stewardship theme for 2023 is: “Refresh + Restore + Reimagine: Our Recipe for Renewal.” We need each of you to help us live into this vision of refreshment, restoration, reimagining, and renewal. We need your presence, your energy, your time, and, yes, your financial contributions. Our invitation to the community this year is to lean into the abundance with which we have been blessed and keep the momentum going. If you have not pledged in the past, we ask that you please consider supporting St. Lawrence in this way. If you are a current pledger, we ask that you prayerfully consider whether it is within your means to increase your pledge by 10%. We are profoundly grateful for every gift - just as we are profoundly grateful for each of you.
I cannot wait to see what the Holy Spirit has in store for us. If the past year has taught us anything it is that God is never done surprising us. Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine.
With abundant gratitude,
The Rev. Kristin L. Saylor
