At St. Lawrence, we believe that children and youth need both worship experience and age appropriate formation. We meet these needs through nursery care, Sunday School, and Confirmation Class.
Children preschool through 5th grade take communion first and leave the service early for Sunday School. Relying heavily on the Godly Play philosophy and curriculum, stories are shared with hands-on materials that children may revisit and explore individually. Stories are followed by art, activities, Bible Study and discussion tailored to different ages. The basis for Sunday School is an invitation to wonder, encouraging our youngest members to develop their faith at their pace within the context of the Episcopal church, and to learn on their own and from peers, as well as from story tellers and assistants.
Sunday School runs from September through May.
St. Lawrence’s confirmation class is a two-year program of study, instruction, and discussion that supports one of the Church’s sacraments - confirmation. Seventh through ninth graders comprise our current class. Despite the pandemic, we anticipate these students will be confirmed mid-2021. The class uses the book My Life, My Faith to discuss topics such as the history of our faith and what we believe - but we also eat some tasty treats and share stories from our personal journeys.
